Designed as one of the first chain of coffee bars in the UK for The Seattle Coffee Company, whilst John Bodley-Scott was employed at Arthur Collin Architect in 1995. The coffee shops were fitted out using an interior design that reflected the branded identity of the coffee company through the use of colour, graphics, materials and furniture that was designed by Pentagram.
The aim was to provide a third space for people to meet up and enjoy coffee with friends in the city, which has now become part of our everyday lives. Each shop was fitted out over a six week period in accordance with the fast track programme set by the client. After constructing 60 outlets, The Seattle Coffee Company was purchased by Starbucks in 1998.
