An existing community mental health facility in Lewisham was upgraded to meet Low Secure standards in 2012. This was achieved by providing a new reception and visitor’s suite, improving the safety of bathrooms and communal areas, upgrading the security and safety of the gardens and addressing infection control issues.
The project was carried out in three phases, which allowed part of the building to be occupied during the works. Lengthy negotiations with the planners were required to address the impact on the amenity of the residential area. The project included a programme of window replacement that incorporated a sliding window that is designed to improve safety, reduce the risk of abscondtion and the passing of contraband from public to private areas.
