In order to respond to the client’s desire to provide a therapeutic garden for their Triage Ward in Lambeth, we developed a design that allowed the garden to be constructed at first floor level with space underneath for future development. The interior of the garden combined the clinical requirements to provide a space that was safe and secure whilst meeting the therapeutic needs of the service users.
The choice of colours was made following a dialogue with the service users and clinical team and the landscape design was developed to provide an enjoyable space which was also safe with robust plants chosen.
The interior of the ward was adapted to address to acoustic and observation concerns raised by the clinical team and a special sliding door detail was developed to solve flooding issues from en suite bathrooms whilst respecting Privacy and Dignity of service users. The project was completed in 2011.
